project 3

this holiday is screwing up the shipping schedules i'm afraid.apparently there could be problems shipping Monday. there is an afordable option for the El wire, it comes with the switch and battery pack that has a belt loop atachment, so there should be no need for a battery pocket on the suits. possibly just a piece of fabrick that allows the belt clip to attach to.

the company is in Montreal and the price per unit of light wire and battery pack is 29.99 + shipping cost.

but there are too many variables to depend on i think. i am going to go to candian tire and where ever else i can think of to try and figure it out.

but again in reagrds to the suits the zippers or velcro...whatever we use should be in the back i think

*also i'm starting to re concidering crackable glow sticks for the lights

I think that if the led systems become too complicated or too costly that the crack style glo sticks are a good alternative. They are cheap and surprisingly bright and come in perfect lengths to make the sections of the stick man. we could even just tape them to the suits with clear packing tape.

(((cough*the only issue is when they die we are creating waste*cough)))

i did figure out a way to make the led lights work at active surplus, but again cost and weight of the battery needed to power the lights combined with a special power inverter was becoming too much of a hassle i think. the batery is literally 3 pounds. and its 14.99 and the inverter is 20 and the lights are 10, and would probly use two strands of lights

15
20
10
10
= $55 dollars on lights and batteries per suit. (and all that creats waste but at least its taken home by someone)

there is just not enough time for the perfect El wire to be ordered in time...which is a shame

well, it's great that we're making the suits work the way we originally wanted. how many do you think can be done? A three pound battery will require a serious belt or something. maybe we can make a few (like 5) led suits and 5 that are the glo stick style? is that a bad idea?

My advice is this: have an LED suit as well as a glow-stick suite mocked up for Monday night, so that everyone can see the difference and make a reasoned decision. Personally, I'd stick to one kind of suit, so that you're not troubleshooting two things and so that the camera team can calibrate the camera to one or the other.

Zack, why do the lights need a three-pound battery?

Looking at the EL Wire again. . . I'd call them first thing in the morning and see if they can ship UPS next day. Given the cost of the LED solution, you could work on the glow-stick as a backup plan. If the EL wire arrived late Tuesday, would you have enough time? At that point, you could throw everyone at the task.

ps. I want some EL wire. . .
